Craigard Threads: A Hexi Cardigan Story

Updated: Oct 4

My Inspiration Square

I was just playing around with granny squares and leftover yarn when I stumbled upon a colour pairing that felt surprisingly harmonious. I don’t know about anyone else, but I very rarely make anything for myself. This time, though, I could actually picture it—a jumper, just for me.

Several granny squares later, the jumper was finished. I tried it on… and hated it. So, out it came—every last stitch ripped back. A couple of weeks passed, and I came across all those little balls of yarn again. Something about them still called to me, so I decided to have another go.

This time, I aimed for a hepti cardigan—a variation on the popular hexi cardigans. I fiddled with the idea for a while, unsure how to shape it, until I found a Facebook group dedicated to the style. Turns out, it wasn’t such a unique idea after all! Luckily, the group had a pattern, and when I compared it to what I’d been doing, I realised I was pretty close—just one small tweak needed.

If you’ve made it this far, well done! My next few posts will follow the progress of this cardigan, along with anything else I’m working on at the same time.
